A Day in the Life at Saving Gracie: Where Fur Meets Care!

At Saving Gracie’s mobile clinic we wake up everyday with one mission in mind: to keep our furry animals healthy and united with their families. Although our clinic is small, we try to deliver the best veterinary care for your pets at little to no cost!

Today, we welcome you to check out our behind the scenes of Saving Gracie, where our love for our furry friends is not just our job — it’s our way of life!

7:00 AM — Rise and Shine

Saving Gracie starts their day early morning, where our clinic preps for the early sun to hit our office. Our veterinarians, vet technicians, and volunteers huddle up for a team meeting every morning. Our team sets up today’s goals, special surgeries, and words of encouragement

After our huddle, each team mate ensures that we are stocked with surgical kits, vaccines, antibiotics, flea preventatives and plenty of treats! By 7:50 AM, our team is ready to vital and care for dozens of families waiting to be seen.

For many of these families, Saving Gracie is their only option for affordable pet care.

8:00 AM — Meet the Families and Pets

Our clinic instantly forms a small line with families holding leashes and carriers, with mixed emotions on what today will unfold.

Our first patient of the day is a mixed Chihuahua named Princess, who needs a variety of things. Jessica the owner has dedicated her life to caring for Princess but due to financial insecurity, Princess health has taken a hit.

There’s also Mr. Enzo, a 1 year old cat, who needs dental cleaning and vaccinations. Evan and his wife have cared for Enzo even while being homeless!

As we quickly start checking in our patients. We get to hear and listen to every pet’s different story and situation. But one thing’s for sure, they are all loved beyond measure!

10:00 AM — Surgeries and Treatments

As the day continues, we advance more into minor surgeries like mass removals and spay/neuter operations that are performed by our highly skilled veterinarians. Our treatments start to roll out including dental cleaning to help prevent gum disease and vaccines to protect from deadly diseases.

Our Veterinary techs explain thoroughly to the families on procedures and proper aftercare instructions. Volunteers offer emotional support and assist with basic questions and help where needed.

At Saving Gracie, our team believes in compassion being part of every treatment plan. We go above and beyond not just in visible wounds, but emotional ones too.

12:30 PM — Midday Vibes

Lunchtime for our team comes in between surgeries and quick breaks throughout the day. Throughout the day we always ensure our team is always fed by including snacks and beverages stocked up.

During downtime, our Dr’s like to share their victories of what they accomplished, such as a successful tumor removal from our sweet old Princess. Our Dr’s love to appreciate each other’s works, and often mention how much they value Saving Gracie.

2:00 PM — Promoting Pet Education

Saving Gracie goes beyond just treatment, we also believe in educating the pet owners. Our clinic encourages all of our pet owners to join our free “Pet Care 101” sessions, hosted in person and online. These 30 minute helpful sessions, go through the importance of flea prevention, dental hygiene, nutritions, diets and the importance of regular check ups.

We offer handouts in English and Spanish to ensure accessible access to our community.

4:00 PM — Wrapping Up

As our day comes to the end, we discharge our last few patients and check on any last required vaccines or medications needed before closing down our shop. Our team starts to sanitize every room, restock supplies and reflect on today’s work.

Today we had a successful day, as we treated over 40 pets. Knowing that these families left with a more positive feeling from when they first came in.

5:30 PM — Preparing for Tomorrow

As all our patients exit our clinic, our team starts to plan on tomorrow’s day. With preparing tomorrow’s scheduled surgeries, ordering supplies, and having new appointments scheduled.

Our team ensures quality of care even after a long shift.

Saving Gracie knows the great impact we have on our pet families and we show continuous compassion day after day!
